During my study-abroad experience, I visited Crete and woke up early one morning to go for a run in Chania.
I was rewarded with one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever experienced. The morning sun was warming the water, the town was beginning to wake up, and the sound of seagulls and gentle waves filled the quiet.
There was a chill in the air, but the sunlight made everything feel warm. I remember the serenity of it most of all.
It was one of those rare moments when you feel completely present, grateful to be exactly where you are. I wanted to hold onto that feeling, and painting it felt like a way to return to it.
