21. Piazza Novanna
Rome, Italy
Bernini is one of the artists who inspired me to paint. I could stand in front of his sculptures and genuinely feel emotional.
His Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona is particularly beautiful to me: white marble against turquoise water, blue skies overhead, and terracotta rooftops and colorful buildings surrounding the piazza.
I love the way sculpture, architecture, water, and light all come together in this one place. The fountain feels monumental, yet it's also part of an ordinary public square where people walk past, sit, talk, and go about their days.
Painting it felt like a small way of paying tribute to an artist whose work has had such a profound influence on me.
