17. Central Park Stroll
New York City
I rode horses for fifteen years and competed in equestrian sports, so horses have been a huge part of my life.
Seeing a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park brought back a little of that world for me. The practice of using horses to pull carriages in the city has raised serious animal-welfare concerns, and the industry has been moving toward discontinuation. I understand those concerns.
Still, seeing the horses reminded me of a part of myself I miss.
There's something calming about horses that has always stayed with me. And while a carriage ride through Central Park might be lovely for some, I'd take galloping across a cross-country course and jumping obstacles over 3'9" any day.
