04. Gli Amici
Trastevere, Rome
This painting comes from a quiet moment in Trastevere, when the restaurant Trattoria Gli Amici was closed for the afternoon.
It was siesta time, and the restaurant had that peaceful, paused feeling that Italian streets seem to do so well. I love seeing places when they're not performing for anyone: the chairs waiting, the doors closed, the street settling into itself.
There's a different kind of beauty in a restaurant when nobody is dining there. You can almost imagine the conversations that will fill it again when the doors reopen.
